Registered Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia
Hi, I’m Susan. I am a strengths focused clinical psychologist. I seek to help you achieve your treatment goals, and maintain your treatment gains.
I treat each client as a unique individual and help them to enhance their knowledge and understanding about their own mental health care needs. This encourages clients to be self-advocates and active participants in their own mental health care. This collaborative approach respects each individual’s needs. It also makes space for clients to ask questions, describe concerns, and become involved in important treatment decisions. You are the expert on your life and past experiences. I help to point out behaviour patterns, connect the dots between decisions and events, and help to provide you with useful therapeutic tools. I have a passion for working with individuals across the lifespan with particular emphasis on adults. I am a clinical psychologist with experience in a variety of settings including telehealth, inpatient substance abuse centres, outpatient substance abuse centres, community mental health centres, county health centres, face-to-face individual therapy, research, and private practice. I also have experience working in both Australia and the United State of America.
My counselling approach stresses equality in the counselling relationship. I see my role as providing support and insight into a client’s experiences. I have experience working with a diverse range of individuals with an emphasis and passion for working with individuals who have experienced trauma, depression, and anxiety, individuals that identify as members of the LGBTTQQIAP+ community and individuals with substance use disorders. I primarily work from a Person-Centred Therapy approach as this approach emphasizes your autonomy within the therapeutic relationship. I also use elements of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
